New Iobaria was—or is, depending on whom you ask—a nation that stretched across northwestern Casmaron, covering much of the territory of Old Iobaria.[1] New Iobaria was founded during the century-long Restoration War which began in 3212 AR when three warlords (one of Issian descent) brought together allies, including dragons, and reclaimed the city of Orlov from foreign rule.[2]
History
With the aid of dragonriders, who could easily reach Iobaria's rugged central highlands, the Restoration War came to an end in 3304 AR, and King Irral I formally declared peace in 3309 AR, handing over many of the uninhabited cyclopean ruins of Koloran to his draconic allies.[1]
In 3679 AR, the cyclops Burlor, armed with artifacts from the caverns of Dirrinir, formed the Great Horde and laid siege to much of New Iobaria, destroying several settlements, including Orostros, which became known as Fralros, and ending the golden age of New Iobaria.[1]
By 3870 AR, the human rulers had turned to strife and treachery, eventually leaving only the royal clan, House Arjal in control of Iobaria as both Arjal's enemies and allies fled west into the lands that would one day become Brevoy.[2]
The fall of New Iobaria would begin in 4519 AR, when the Drakeplague killed nearly sixty per cent of Iobaria's dragon population over the course of three months. In the chaos of the Drakeplague, dragons attacked and destroyed the city of Mavradia, believing a cure was hiding in its walls.[1]
In 4607 AR, Sarkorian barbarians, fleeing the Worldwound, arrived in Iobaria, driving a number of Mendevians of Iobarian ancestry before them. The influx of refugees sparked conflicts between the Sarkorians, native insurgents, and Iobarian troops, eventually leading to the fall of Mavradia to rebel forces. This, coupled with several plagues, led to the ultimate collapse of New Iobaria by 4659 AR.[1]
Though the ruling factions of Kridorn, Mirnbay, and Orlov each claim to be the rightful rulers of Iobaria based on their ties to some dead king, outside these cities and the grasp of their mercenary armies, the realm of New Iobaria no longer exists in any meaningful way.[2]
